The popular ridge and soffit ventilation systems and the traditional metal pot vents are also passive ventilation systems. Also barely using my finger of course they spin freely no noise etc. This is a standard turbine vent. Walking around my soffits yes i do have soffit vents and from the attic i can see sunlight in.

They have fins that open when they turn in the wind and this spinning action creates suction that draws hot humid attic air outside. If you think a hot attic is adding to your bills i d get on a chair and hold my hand up near the ceiling to see if you feel heat radiating in. Turbine vents are a type of exhaust vent. Climb up into your attic and look at the vents from the inside.

Make sure the trees surrounding the house are cut or trimmed so they don t obstruct air flow to the turbine. If the vents are blocked by insulation boxes or other obstructions heat will not be able to escape through them and they will not spin. Just hot air rising out of one will make it spin. If air sealing hasn t been performed in the attic they ll pull air into the attic from inside the house and shouldn t be used that bears repeating.

As soon as it starts to spin it vacuums air out of your attic. I would surmise that you have so much venting that there s not enough force to move your turbines unless external wind does it. The faster the wind speed the faster the turbine rotates. Making your attic turbine ventilator run efficiently.

All attics get hot no matter what. The new turbine needs hot air to flow out to turn the impellers. Do i have a low pressure system. The presence of wind where the ventilator is installed makes it rotate pumping out hot air from the attic.

A turbine vents spins with the slightest breeze. The other thing about turbine vents is that they really do pull air out of the attic. You may have to replace the turbine with an electric fan type of ventilator. If the wind is blowing and catches the fins then the turbines act like giant vacuum pumps sucking hundreds of cubic feet of hot air out of an attic per minute.

Do not install turbine vents if the attic has not been professionally air sealed. I ve gone on the roof and white lithium greased both and but a level on them and they are pretty close to level.
